Day Camp 2013 Senior Staff

ISAAC BRUBAKER
Hi everyone!  My name is Isaac and I've been a life-long camper at CHH.  I was a camper here starting in 1994 and I've been working at Camp seasonally since 2000.  I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2006 with a BA in English.  After graduating in 2006, I started working full-time at Northwest running sports and rentals and, eventually, running the After School Program until March of 2010.  During my time at CHH I've been involved with every unit at camp.  I was a counselor in every unit for at least a year, I was unit head for 3 years for the Explorers and 1 year for the Trail Blazers, and I was the Assistant Day Camp Director of Senior Village (5th - 8th) for 4 years.  In March of 2010 I started working at CHH full time continuing at Assistant Day Camp Director of SV and starting as the Adventure Education Director where I run our outdoor education and ropes/challenge course program.  Now Summer Camp is my only focus and I work hard to maintain our social media as well.  My favorite parts of camp are the lake, the overnighters, the camping trips, and, of course, the ropes course.  I'm excited to be continuing my work with Day Camp as Director and I'm looking forward to another amazing summer!  Give me a call or an email if you have any questions because I'd be happy to answer them!

GEORGI CHAPPELL
Hi everyone! Some of you may remember me from summers gone by as counselor for day and night camp and as a lifeguard. Since then I have continued my work with children back in Australia and have always looked back on my time at camp with great fondness.
Now, after a few years break, I'm really excited to be returning to the happiest place on earth, Camp Henry Horner (Disney Land is a close second). I'm especially looking forward to working with our awesome Unit Heads and Isaac to make summer 2013 the best one yet... and escaping the Australian winter!
See you all soon!

STACY MOSTOVOY
Hi everyone! My name is Stacy and I am currently working at JCYS Northwest Family as the After School Program Coordinator. I love spending my afternoons doing arts and crafts, cooking, science, and playing many fun-filled games. My favorite games to play while outside or in the gym is kickball and medic! We have also gone on some really cool field trips and I am looking forward to plan some fun ones for the Pioneers! I am a recent graduate of Illinois State University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I was even lucky enough to be a part of an AWESOME program that allowed me to go student teach in England! I taught "year three" students who were 7 and 8 years old. I had some free time to do traveling around Europe where I visited Belgium, Spain, and France! I would love to share stories and pictures with all of you. Before leaving for England, I student taught in a fifth grade classroom in Libertyville. I love teaching, staying active, and having fun! I am beyond excited for the summer to start and I can't wait to meet each and every one of you! Other than meeting all of you, I am most looking forward to the lake. I spend every summer on the lake with my friends going boating, riding the jet ski, tubing, and swimming! Summer is my favorite season of the year and I can't wait for the warm wonderful weather to come.  I hope all of you have a fantastic rest of the school year and I can't wait for my first fun filled summer at CHH!

MATT HILL
Hello everyone, my name is Matt Hill and I am the new Explorer Unit Head for this summer! It’s hard to believe it, but this will be my 13th summer at Camp Henry Horner. My counselors gave me so many great and memorable experiences that I couldn’t stop coming back to a place I've grown to love. I’ve been at day camp since I was in 2nd grade and overnight camp since 6th grade. I then went on to become a Pioneer CIT for a year and an Explorer counselor for another four years.
When I’m not at camp, I’m studying Political Science and Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. One of my favorite things to do here at Illinois is go to our football games and I can promise you that the Illini will have a comeback next year! I am also the Deputy Chief of Staff on the Illinois Student Senate, our student government, and the Philanthropy Chair of my fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa.
One of my favorite places at camp is the the lake. It’s one of the most beautiful places to swim, boat, and hang out with everyone. My favorite camp event is Horner Idol because I absolutely love seeing all of the creativity and talent that each camper and counselor brings to the performances, and I’m looking forward to an Explorer group takeing home the gold this year! I am very excited to return this summer as Unit Head and build one of the best units in CHH history—filled with great campers, counselors, and lots of fun!

SYDNEY BAUER
Hey everyone! My name is Sydney Bauer and I will be the Trailblazer Unit Head for Summer 2013! This will be my thirteenth year in total at Camp Henry Horner. I have been at camp as a camper, as a counselor, and am now so excited to work as a Unit Head! I’ve always been a Trailblazer counselor so I’m thrilled to have the chance to take my experience with this age group to another level. I have a lot of enthusiasm, quirkiness, and camp experience and am really looking forward to this summer.
Outside of camp, I am an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, studying English and Psychology.  At school, I’m very involved with my sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi, and am a part of the James Scholar Program.
Camp has always been an integral part of my life, and I hope to share my love for Camp Henry Horner with all of my campers this summer. Can’t wait!

PHIL TAMULIS
Hey Guys! My name is Phil Tamulis and I will be a Unit Head for the Earth Trekkers for this upcoming summer. Some of you may remember me as a counselor for Overnight Camp in 2009 or as half of the amazing Ropes Specialist duo from 2011. Shout out to my man-crush Big Willy!
I moved to the Land of Lincoln over two years ago from New Jersey to pursue a career in education with a focus in Health and Physical Education. In my spare time I like to stay active by either working out, skateboarding, or pwning noobs on the internet.  I was recently hired as a health and physical education teacher for Highland Park's Edgewood Middle School and I'm very excited to start work there!

I cannot wait for the summer to start so we can begin our 2013 journey together!

Overnight Camp 2013 Senior Staff

Kenley Perry

Howdy Folks.  If you've been around JCYS Camp Henry Horner for a while my name might be familiar to you.  I have been with CHH for 16+ years!  I began with Camp Henry Horner as a fresh-faced college graduate with lots of overnight camp, park district and high adventure program experience.  Armed with degrees in Outdoor Recreation & Psychology, I enthusiastically began my full time career in camping with JCYS Camp Henry Horner in 1996.  I started out running the Camp's ropes course and outdoor education programs during the year, while in the summer I led Adventure Camp!  Our very own Isaac Brubaker was one of my first campers.  Eventually I worked my way up trough the ranks and ran Day Camp for a number of years before handing of the baton to Isaac last summer.

For 2013 I am so excited to be running Overnight Camp! My experiences as an overnight camper and staff member are what inspired me to pursue this career path.  I believe strongly in the sense of community and belonging that can be created in a great overnight camp.  I look forward to watching the campers soar in a environment where they feel accepted, are encouraged & supported, feel able to take risks & try new things and most of all make deep, life long friendships. Overnight camp has the power to have a lasting positive impact on a child's life and I can't wait to be a part of it.  I am eager to meet you all and make 2013 the best summer yet!

Sarah Cort

My name is Sarah Cort and I am so excited to be coming back to CHH this summer as a Village Director and Goodman Educator at OVN camp! I am currently living in Israel as a participant on OTZMA, a 10-month service program sponsored by MASA and the Jewish Federations of North America. In Israel, I have studied Hebrew, taught English in Israeli schools, staffed a Birthright trip, and even volunteered in the Israeli Defense Force. In May of 2011, I graduated with my bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Indiana University- Go Hoosiers! I am also a St. Louis native, and an avid fan of the World Series' Champion STL Cardinals (sorry Cubs fans). I can't wait to return to Ingleside this June to see campers, both old and new, and bring back my bows and "Camp Cool!"

Brenda Folak

Hi everyone! My name is Brenda Folak and I am the new unit head for junior village. I am a senior at William Woods University studying Business Marketing and Equine Science.  I currently live in a small town in mid Missouri where there is not much to do here except count down the days until camp starts.

I am so excited to spend the summer at Camp Henry Horner and become a part of this big family I have been hearing so much about. My favorite outside summer games to play are capture the flag, ghost in the grave yard, and most of all spending time around the camp fire. My favorite hobby of all time is riding horses, so if you can't find me at camp I will most likely be at the nearest barn.

I have two sisters, one older and one younger, and I can't wait to be able to hangout with them all summer.  We are all very crafty and love getting involved if you give us the chance. I cannot wait to get to work with all the staff and campers this summer! I'll be seeing everyone soon!
